Event Recap

On World Contraception Day 2019, we teamed up with Natural Cycles and Health for panel to discuss what’s missing from the conversation around birth control. We spoke about what we can do to increase birth control options, and how we can work towards collective change.

“In the past, women were just not trusted to make decisions for themselves, even with all the facts on the table. We have to change that.”
Elina Berglund | Founder, Natural Cycles

“Many communities of color don't trust their healthcare providers because of systemic reasons and racial reasons. At Womanly, we try to just bring it back: We're real people. We're not trying to sell you anything. We're just trying to get information out there.”
Attia Taylor | Founder, Womanly

“At Health.com, we want women to feel like they're in control of their health and their body. This isn't boring scientific information; this is something you can use to change your life.”
Esther Crain | Deputy Editor, Health.com

“As a clinician, I'm finding that most women don't know the whole story so they don't know the risks and benefits to all their options.”
Megan Tantillo | BSN, RN and Founder, Holistic Health Code

“We’ve surveyed women and many believe the most effective birth control method is the pill or the condom, which is just not true. It's the IUD.”
Elina Berglund | Founder, Natural Cycles

“We combine art with health information so that people feel and see themselves in the education they’re receiving.”
Attia Taylor | Founder, Womanly

“We need to shift the culture from being glamour focused to education focused. Think about celebrity influence: you can really put birth control, awareness, and education in front and get a message across.”
Esther Crain | Deputy Editor, Health.com

“Women simply need support, from choosing birth control options to preconception planning, and privacy to postpartum and beyond.”
Megan Tantillo | BSN, RN and Founder, Holistic Health Code

“Natural Cycles helps you understand when you're fertile and when you're not, and it also empowers you to understand what's going on inside your body.”
Elina Berglund | Founder, Natural Cycles

“We built Womanly to clear up the noise and confusion that exists around birth control.”
Attia Taylor | Founder, Womanly

“It's a conversation between you and your OBGYN to decide what's right for you. There are so many options out there, but the information is just not getting to women.”
Esther Crain | Deputy Editor, Health.com

“Women don't know that hormones can affect how you feel on a day-to-day basis. When you start to understand your body, you can care for yourself and your fertility in more meaningful ways.”
Megan Tantillo | BSN, RN and Founder, Holistic Health Code
